Aaron Copland in Peru

I am beginning a unit on 20th century music with my 12th graders and I am really excited to start talking about more recent (relatively speaking, in the music world) composers. My 12th grade boys are just awesome and we have a great time in class. They all know now that Aaron Copland is my favorite composer and that I am looking forward to talking about American music with them. I've been playing a lot of Copland lately in my classroom, just because I love listening to it so much. It brings back good memories - I played "Appalachian Spring" on the cello with the UNH orchestra my sophomore year and I will never forget the experience. Copland was a bit of a traveler and I came across this great photo of him landing in Lima. How neat is that?
