Wanakee

A trip home isn't home without going up to Wanakee. One of the hardest parts about living overseas has been having to miss spending a significant part of the summer up at camp. I went up for the Footnotes concert this year and had a great time hanging out with the Rudolfs and Nick and all my favorite Wanakee people. I've decided I can't stay away from camp any longer, so I am hoping to come back to volunteer for Footnotes for a week next summer. I love visiting camp and in some ways it is nice to not have responsibilities while I am there, but on the other hand, it feels weird to just be hanging out while everyone else is running around being useful. I'm ready to be useful again! :)

Jean and Mike are doing an amazing job as the directors of Wanakee. It makes me so happy to see them there, being so successful. They are both great at doing little things that make a big impact. They have planted flowers all over the place and really spruced up camp. Look how beautiful the farmhouse looks with new paint. It is so nice to see it in its original red, instead of the washed out pinkish red it was for so many years.

I managed to make it up to camp another day to say goodbye to Jean and Lisa. They were busy getting lunch ready for the volunteers, but I was able to distract them long enough for a quick picture. Look how happy we all are to be at camp!
